Turning Points
Ephesians 2:1-10
[one_half] Do you love the round-a-bouts on our roads? I hear some people saying that they love them because they give people the opportunity to cooperate at intersections. Other people don’t seem to like them because they slow things down and it is really embarrassing to go around more than one full lap without ever figuring out where to get off!
Just like every spiritual life has a fork in the road…there are also a series of turning points that have the potential to change everything. We find one of those turning points here in Ephesians 2:1 where the Apostle Paul rightly identifies that there was a time when we were all ‘dead in our transgressions and sins.’ That was certainly my experience!
Then, almost out of the blue, there was a turning point that changed everything. In Ephesians 2:4 that turning point is identified by one little conjunction – “But, because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ.” It is a turning point word that says once things were one way but now things have changed. [one_half last=last] As a result, the saving grace of God is made available to folks like you and me. Our simple (yet profound) faith activates an outpouring of grace that truly makes all things new.
Today, I want to invite you to simply take some time to say thank you for what God has done. If you know the great love of God in the depth of your soul as the gift of salvation…give thanks! If you have never known that powerful gift in your life…simply ask. And God, who is rich in mercy, will bless you with grace that is overflowing! [/one_half]
