The Living God

Matthew 22:23-33

[one_half] Yesterday, I urged you to know the healing power of grace that comes to us through the gift of salvation.  I pray that your life is being made fresh and alive every day!

That actually is the point of our reading for today as well.  It is an interesting question that came to Jesus about the resurrection of our spirits.  They hedged the question in the complexity of life, death, and marriage.  But Jesus cut to the chase to help them understand a great truth of Christian discipleship.

That truth is this: that God is the God of the living and not of the dead.  It is not that death and eternal life is not significant for the Christian; but living today (and every day) is even more important.  That is one of the reasons we don’t talk much about heaven or hell.  Again, it is not because heaven and hell are not important; but the Christian disciple, the followers of Jesus Christ, recognize the blessing of the life we have been given and want to use it to the fullest while we have the opportunity. [one_half last=last] Life today is critically important.  We not only want to live a full life, we want to live a life that includes mercy, compassion, hospitality, service, and joyful witness.  Today is the day!  Live your salvation to the fullest possible extent.  Tomorrow will take care of itself!
