“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from you country and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.’” (Genesis 12:1-3)
When I graduated from college, I never dreamed that I would be working in a church doing children and youth ministry. In the summer of 2003, Jason got a job in Wyoming, and so we went. I had no clue what I would be doing there, but was hoping to get on at the school district and put my education degree to work. And then God started to whisper to me “go”. Doors started to open up to me at First United Methodist Church in Gillette to work with children and youth, and I started to slowly and carefully walk through those doors. The call got louder “Go”. After a month of going through the doors, I was hired on as the minister of children, youth and their families. “GO!” I had no clue what I was doing, but I heard a call from God, and I went.
It is amazing what can happen when we start listening to the whispers of “go” in our lives. Like Abram, God can take us to some amazing places and bless our lives through the journey. But we have to listen to that call. We have to actually GO when God calls us.
God is starting to whisper around the church, have you heard him? He has ministry opportunities set up for us, all we have to do is listen to his call and then go. Is he calling us to minister to the families who are struggling to make ends meet? Is he calling us to bridge the multi-generational gap and start pairing up seniors with young families? Is he calling us to start up a new preschool here in Parker? Where is God leading us?
I am dreaming big and excited to see where God is leading us. The possibilities are endless when God is with us. All we have to do is GO!
