Waiting on the Word

Monday December 23, 2013
Colossians 4:2-6

Do you have some Christian mentors in your life? Can you remember the people who were instrumental in the establishment of your faith or in the growth of your Christian discipleship? Take a few minutes to consider the unique characteristics that they brought into your life.

Now, please read Colossians 4:2-6 one more time. Can you see the faces of your mentors in the images that are described? Maybe you can even hear a voice or two providing you with encouragement!

I remember the pastor who introduced me to the Lord. His name was J.L. Penfold. He had just been appointed to serve the United Methodist Church in our little home town as his very first place of ministry. He invested in the process of building a relationship with me. More than anything, he spent time with me. It wasn’t until much later that I began to see a glimpse of his private life with Christ. I discovered that he was a man of prayer. He had a spirit of thanksgiving and a desire to serve others with very little fan fare. He was articulate and well read but always thoughtful about the words that he spoke.

Could you take Colossians 4:2-6 and convert it into a description of your life? Maybe it could even become a personal mission statement. What if our behavior was centered on the ingredients of this passage. Do you think our lives would honor the Lord while we are Waiting On The Word?

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. I hope you are feeling the joy of the season and not the rush and guilt that can be produced by the pressures of Christmas. I hope you will take time to breathe deep, reflect on your life and ask…Is my life in alignment with the things that please God?

Memory Verse Of The Week:

Colossians 4:6 NIV
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

Missional Prayer Focus For Today:
