Today’s Scripture: Luke 18:9-14
Ash Wednesday
Lenten Meal tonight: 5:30 dinner!
Worship 7:00 PM
What a wonderful Biblical image to launch us into our time together for this season of Lent. It is a powerful reminder that there is a great difference between the things we do and the things we believe. It highlights the distinction between actions that grow out of faith and activities that create an outer appearance.
We all know that we can approach Christian discipleship with a spirit of arrogance and boasting. That is easy to do. We can call attention to the fact that we are seeking God in this Lenten season so others will think we are special. But that approach will ultimately create a separation between our lives and the heart of God.
Our goal is to be connected to God, grow in our faith, and discover new ways we can express the convictions that give us new life. It all begins with a spirit of humility where those who think they are first actually become last.
Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days of temptation…or forty days of overcoming! We will walk with him as we continue to discover our place in the Kingdom of God. Let us start the walk in the humility of Ash Wednesday. As we walk together, we will find strength. Take my hand; let’s walk, worship and live in the wonder of God.
